STATE OF CONNECTICUT RELICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Mandated Lectures: Yale CME is providing lectures on those topics mandated by the State of Connecticut. Beginning October 1, 2007, Public Act 05-275 requires a physician applying for license renewal to have completed at least 50 contact hours of continuing education during the previous 24 months. A "contact hour" means a minimum of 50 minutes of continuing education activity. It must (1) be in the physician's practice area; (2) reflect the physician's professional needs in order to meet the public's health care needs; and (3) include at least one contact hour of training or education in infectious diseases (e.g. AIDS, HIV), risk management, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Go to mandated lectures.

3rd Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis Symposium Scheduled for May 9, 2009

The link between Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis and the administration of Gadolinium–based MR contrast has already affected clinical practice and the use of enhanced MR imaging. This third symposium will address the latest developments in NSF, including epidemiology, mechanism of disease, therapy, clinical approaches and risk reduction. There will be a call for abstracts, a poster session and oral presentations of select abstracts. This symposium has become the only multi–disciplinary scientific program dedicated to NSF with experts and attendees representing dermatopathology, dermatology, diagnostic radiology, nephrology, rheumatology, legal experts, industry representatives and patients.

The Departments of Dermatology, Diagnostic Radiology and Internal Medicine–Sections of Nephrology and Rheumatology will present the 3rd Annual Scientific Symposium on Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis and Gadolinium–based Contrast Agents on Saturday, May 9, 2009 to be held in The Anlyan Center for Medical Education and Research at the Yale School of Medicine.

Accredited for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, the program is multi–disciplinary and will have experts from many fields including Dermatology, Dermatopathology, Diagnostic Radiology, Nephrology and Rheumatology from Yale as well as from other US and European institutions.

Participants who attend this symposium will be exposed to the latest on the diagnosis of NSF, its clinical and epidemiological features and the link between NSF and GBCA. They will also learn about potential mechanisms leading to NSF and new therapies. Finally, they will be able to hear the current strategies to reduce risk and the latest recommendations from US and European work groups.

For more information, please visit here.

Announcement Concerning Residents and Fellows

AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(™) may be awarded to any M.D. or D.O., and this now includes Residents and Fellows. Additionally, Residents and Fellows may now apply directly to the AMA to be awarded 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits per year of residency or fellowship.

New Connecticut Relicensure Requirements

Beginning October 1, 2007, the bill requires a physician applying for license renewal to have completed at least 50 contact hours of continuing education during the previous 24 months. A “contact hour” means a minimum of 50 minutes of continuing education activity. It must (1) be in the physician's practice area; (2) reflect the physician's professional needs in order to meet the public's health care needs; and (3) include at least one contact hour of training or education in infectious diseases (e.g. AIDS, HIV), risk management, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

Requirements for the American Medical Association's Physician's Recognition Award (AMA PRA)

Since 1968, physicians who participate in continuing medical education (CME) have been recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) with the Physician's Recognition Award (PRA).

ACCME Awards Yale CME Recognition

In July 2008, following a year-long process of self–assessment, submission of a detailed 350–page self–study volume, a site visit by ACCME surveyors, and an extensive file review, the national Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) has awarded continued recognition of the Yale School of Medicine and its Center for Continuing Medical Education as an accreditor of CME activities for physicians for another full four–year term.

Yale CME, overseen by Ronald Vender, MD, Associate Dean and CMO of the Yale Medical Group, and Mary Marcarelli, CME Director, carries out the Mission of CME to advocate and support the continuing professional development of health care professionals. Through the Center, the Medical School offers a full range of evidence–based educational programs that enhance the practitioner's knowledge base, provide updates and review, and expand professional skills.
